How the image of a community opera is born

A community opera encourages the entire neighborhood to get involved by participating in its creation, including aspects related to communication. For the conceptualization of the visual identity of La rosa dels set pètals, with dramaturgy by Blanca Bardagil and composition by Tomàs Peire and Lucas Peire, two organizations from the Sant Andreu district were invited: the Artenea Art Therapy Association (located in Congrés i els Indians), whose mission is to improve the quality of life of people with intellectual disabilities through art therapy and complementary therapies, and Llotja Escola d’Art i Disseny (La Sagrera neighborhood), accompanied by collage artist Rebeka Elizegi.

Creative teams from both organizations met weekly for four months to co-create the opera poster through various creative workshops. The result is four posters that will promote the opera before and during the performances in June 2027. Want to see how the process unfolded? The team behind it explains it in the following video, presented by Nadir, an educational and audiovisual project from the Sant Andreu de Palomar neighborhood.

The music that inspired the posters
The methodology developed by Artenea includes music and aromatherapy as inspiring and catalyst elements. These elements were present during the poster creation sessions. Want to hear what music inspired them? We share the playlist with you.

A meeting of the creatives behind the posters for La gata perduda and La rosa dels set pètals

On December 11th, a very special meeting took place between the artists from the Sínia Occupational Center, creators of the poster for La gata perduda, the Liceu's first community opera, and the creators from the Artenea Art Therapy Association, responsible for the posters for Opera Prima's second project. This meeting is the first in a series planned to be held with other areas of the project over the coming months. During the event, a video of the poster creation process was presented, and an art session facilitated by Artenea took place. The team from CIO's La Coctelera podcast also attended and interviewed the participants for a new episode, which will be available soon.

Project news
  • On November 18th, the Liceu opera house participated in a ceremony honoring three female composers forgotten by history, whose names now grace two streets and a garden in the La Sagrera neighborhood. These composers are Antonia Pich Santasusana, Mercè Torrents i Turmo, and Lluïsa Casagemas i Coll. Casagemas was the first Catalan woman to write an opera, *Schiava e regina*, which was scheduled to premiere at the Liceu in 1893 but was never performed due to an anarchist attack.
